Dartboards have been around for many years and, over time, have been made from a variety of materials, including straw, cork, rolled paper, and sisal. Today, most dartboards are made from sisal, mounted onto a wooden backing board and compressed with a metal ring. There is a good reason why most dartboards are made from sisal: sisal is incredibly durable.

When a dart is thrown into a dartboard made of rolled paper, it leaves a permanent hole. With a sisal dartboard, however, this hole is naturally closed by the surrounding sisal fibers, which are highly resilient. As a result, these dartboards last much longer.

With sisal dartboards, you will often see the term Bristle. This is the English term referring to brush-like fibers. Therefore, bristle dartboards are commonly known as “bristle dartboards.”
