In Raiatea, players play the role of members of Arioi, a secret Polynesian religious community. During the game, the Arioi will erect huge To'o statues in order to win their god Oro.
During action rounds, players take the group to different action locations. During ceremonies, players will ask the gods for help to build giant To'o. Without this help from the gods, construction may fail, so players must carefully plan their rituals and determine the amount of mana they must sacrifice to achieve their goal. At the end of the game, the player with the most victory points will lead the group as the new high priest!
